Understanding Water Pipes in Your Home

Once you have your own house, it is essential to remember certain aspects of it that you would normally not even give a thought about. In this case, itโ€™s the water pipes! Water pipes are part of the water supply system in your flat. It is important to keep the system in good condition to ensure continuous flow of water.

You might encounter leaking of pipe joints, the lack of water supply, low water pressure and even weird vibrating sounds.

These problems occur due to several reasons such as the usage and deterioration over time or when hit by objects, the pipes being choked, the reticulation systemโ€™s booster pump malfunctioning and even air locked in pipes.

If any of these problems occur, it would be good for you to:

  1. Engage a licensed plumber to carry out repairs where necessary
  2. Inform the Town Council if there is low water because of a malfunction in the booster pump
  3. Remove air locked in pipes by turning on the tap for awhile, which allows water to flow from the pipes and discharge the air
  4. Shut the stopcock at the PUB water sub-meter to cut the water supply if thereโ€™s a leakage

In order to prevent these problems from occurring, here are some tips:

  1. Check the pipe fittings regularly to ensure that there are no leakages
  2. Engage a licensed plumber to carry out repairs where necessary
